Originally from the African continent, the sene belongs to the family Cesalpiniáceas and has properties that can be used in the world of alternative medicine. The sene of the field usually occurs in secondary vegetation and edge of forest. The plant can also be found in Argentina and Paraguay. In Brazil, it is commonly found in the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
Health benefits:
The tea of the plant is well known due to its laxative property, which is very potent, but does not occur so quickly. The effect of tea is only feeling about 10 hours after taken. The sene irritates the walls of the intestine as soon as it comes in contact with them, the active principles contained in the plant prevent the absorption of water by the organ, this makes the stools are filled with water, and therefore soft. The parts used to prepare the tea of this plant are its leaves and nuts. It is indicated to treat occasional constipation in adults, intestinal purification and hemorrhoids (with medical follow-up).
Directions:
- Put two tablespoons into a quart of water
- Let cook for 3 or 4 minutes, and until starting to boil
- Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes
- Strain and is ready for use.
HOW TO DRINK:
Take 2 to 3 cups a day, for no more than 7 days.
Contraindications:
Being very strong, sene tea is contraindicated in some cases, such as when the person who will ingest has intestinal inflammations or appendicitis.
It should NOT be consumed by pregnant women, children under 12 years and women in the lactation period. Patients with unidentified abdominal pain should avoid tea and only take it after medical authorization. Anyone with colitis, inflammation in the womb and chronic constipation should also stop with the consumption of tea, which if taken for more than seven consecutive days promotes intense diarrhea and loss of electrolytes and minerals such as potassium.
