Description:
The São João cipó is a climbing plant very used in the ornamentation Junina, generally found in all Brazil, produces many inflorescences, full of small elongated and orange flowers. It is an interesting plant, because it adapts to grow in any environment, being present in walls and other constructions.
Its cultivation gives itself in regular fertile soil, always to the full sun and multiplies by seeds and by cutting. Originally from South America, the plant has greater abundance in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Sul, which indicates some contrariness of climates, but shows that the plant is really adaptable and occurs in any climate. Of woody aspect, the plant can be easily found in roads, ravines and fences, because it prefers to develop in the heights to only later fall in clusters of flowers, that begin to develop in the month of May until September, with small variations by state. The adult plant can reach up to 4 meters in length, its leaves are composed of 3 leaflets and a tendril, are rough and opposite, in tone of dark green. In addition to the ornamental value that adds several other names to the plant such as red cipó, flor-de-são-joão.
